Social Engineering, forgotten solider?

People ask me sometimes about security I spent a small time of life working (at this point its a large one but in 30 more years it will be small) as an email security professional. When people ask me about security they go straight to code hacking and white hat versus black hat.

At the end of the day I recommended people interested or intrigued by computer security to read; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_engineering_security
as well as Kevin Mitnicks “The Art of Deception” and “Art of Intrusion”.

If I was writing the syllabus for a security unit/course there would be a subject on social engineering. I find that to many courses in security fail to provide the focus in this area that it requires in today’s modern world. In a trending culture of “copy and paste information” it has never been more important for the average person to be aware of how they can be gamed and tricked by people in the digital world.
